City of Riverside v. Rubidoux Community Services District
Represented the Rubidoux Community Services District in multi-phase trial and on appeal in a $240M contract dispute over Riverside’s Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. In October 2023 the Fourth District Court of Appeal (Division 3) reversed a trial court decision and found in favor of Rubidoux, affirming the district’s position.
Amplify Oil Spill
Represented the County of Orange in the January 2021 oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach. Within months of the case being filed in federal court, the County recovered more than $1M in costs (100 cents on the dollar) from the responsible oil company.
Talbert Channel Oil Spill
Represented the County of Orange in the 2022 oil spill in the Talbert Channel in Huntington Beach. Was able to negotiate a $1.25M payment from the responsible oil company that reimbursed the County for its clean-up costs without the expense or difficulty of filing a lawsuit.
Hermosa Fitness LLP v. City of Hermosa Beach
Represented plaintiff gym in a writ of mandate proceeding in Los Angeles Superior Court where the writ issued because in part, the court found there was impermissible bias on the part of the City Council. Then in the follow-on 1983 civil rights and Fifth Amendment takings case in federal court, negotiated a settlement with the City resulting in approximately $1M recovery for the gym in May 2022.
People v. City of Mission Viejo
Represented the City of Mission Viejo against a lawsuit that would have removed a majority of the city council from office three months before a scheduled election. The Fourth District Court of Appeal (Division 3) issued an emergency stay preventing this from occurring, allowing the scheduled election to proceed.
City of Santa Ana v. Lundar Yuh
Successfully prosecuted a case against a cannabis dispensary that was a chronic nuisance to the surrounding community. Permanently closed the nuisance and obtained an attorneys’ fee award against the illegal business. Enforced the judgment and recovered $400,000 in attorneys’ fees and interest for Santa Ana.
Vasquez v. City of Pomona
Represented individual police captain in complicated, multi-party employment/tort case. In June 2022, the trial court granted summary judgment to defendant.
City of Moreno Valley v. DeSantis, et al.
Represented former Assistant City Attorney in multiple defendant litigation involving California False Claims Act allegations. The trial court sustained a demurrer without leave.
Injunction for a San Gabriel Valley City
Led a team of attorneys, investigators, and multi-jurisdictional law enforcement personnel in obtaining a “gang injunction” for a San Gabriel Valley city against the DuRoc Crips and Monrovia Nuevo Vario.
